How to Grow Succulents

Chp. 1  Growing Succulents

A succulent is any plant with thick water storage organs (location 33)

  • They are adaptive to survive around the plant
    • Some are from Africa

Light

  • Succulent prefer bright light
    • Have a min. of 6 hours sunlight
    • To much sun could mean bleaching out!

Soil

  • Use a fast draing mixture
    • If not use perlite to extend aeration to drainage  (location 33)
    • Or use a clay planter

water

  • succulent should be watered generously, but don’t underwater.
    • In winter cut watering to every other month  (location 53)
    • Overwatering will cause “plant rot”
      • Leaves turn yelloe
      • Soft
      • Or turn white
      • Maybe cut off dead roots for repair
      • Underwatered plant will begin the shed its leaves & Develop brown spots

Chapter 2

(temperature and humidity)

Succulents are more cold-tolerant than people realize (53 of 167)

Think of the dessert succulent like to night time eather

Have humidity at about 80%

Are more draught tolerant (75 of 167)

Succulents need wellm drained garden.  (like a container)

Lookj out for rot – water rom the bottom

Make great houseplants.  Keep temp between 70=80 degrees

Bring succulent indoors for the winter

Propagating ny using a leaf cutting

  • Remove a leaf
    • Put leaf in  dry area ands permit to dry
    • When a leaf becomes calloused, it’s time to plant
    • Put succulent on soil
    • Leave for several weeks
    • Maybe water???
    • Roots will appear
    • Remove the parent leaf
    • Plant will settle in to grow

With off shoots

  • Remove off shoots
  • Let to grow roots it will take between 2-3 weeks.
