Forest Walking: Discovering the Trees and Woodlands of North America by Peter Wohlleben & Jane Billinghurst

Synopsis:

As an Eagle Scout the forest is where I spent much of my time growing up.  It was a very comforting read.  I was interested in a couple of stats that I would like to share or remind us from earlier readings that trees send signals out  about pests.  When bushwacking (cross country) walk backward (I question this!).  Most people like the plains, not the woods.  The bark of a tree is like skin on people.  As a fisherman worms don’t like the rain because they will drown (DUH!!!!!).  Peo[le like trees of different shapes even though foresters are more precise when planting.  I’m not a furniture guy, but didn’t know you could pick the type of wood your furniture is made of (like wormhole).  Was surprised that evergreen needles were between 3-7 years old.  When you take out kids fore a walk in the woods you need to make it fun.  Like finding spruce resin for chewing gum, make a tree diary, or play with the spungy earth soil..  Make sure the tourist understands the importance of composition.
